JPR Classics: Don Matthews interviews The Uptown String Quartet.
Maxine Roach, viola, describes the origin of the Uptown String Quartet along with quartet members Diane Monroe, violin, Lesa Terry, violin, and Marika Hughes, cello. Then the group performs a live broadcast.
We are actually combining forces with a wonderful artist from this area, Chava Florenda, who is a Native American woman who is very involved in music of her tradition...as we explore and build upon who we are as women and what we can share with our respective cultures.
