Anima Mundi Productions presents a rare and heartwarming opportunity to experience music from across the Middle East, led by one of its foremost composers, Dr. Shireen Abu-Khader.
Founder of an internationally acclaimed choir that earned a gold medal at the World Choir Games, creator of Dozan World—a leading hub for publishing and education on Arab music—and Composer-in-Residence with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Dr. Abu-Khader draws on her Jordanian and Palestinian heritage and her wide network of Levantine musicians to weave a rich tapestry of sound from a region still unfamiliar to many American audiences.
As part of this live event, she will sing and perform her own compositions and other music that draws on classical, folkloric, and spiritual traditions from across the Middle East.
Dr. Abu-Khader will also present the world premiere of a new concert-film created especially for our Heart of Humanity Concert Series in Ashland, featuring the Usul Ensemble musicians from across the Middle East. This concert-film is directed by celebrated Canadian-Jordanian filmmaker Mariam Momani, awarded Best Female Director and Best Female Producer at the Toronto International Women Film Festival and Best Screenwriter at the Indie Shorts Awards in New York.
Two years in the making, this project has overcome significant barriers to bring these musical treasures—and their timely cultural resonance—to the Rogue Valley. This promises to be an unforgettable afternoon of artistry and connection. Not to be missed.
